    Fiesta Latina 4. Okt:
    HOLY COW!! Salsa festen på Kysten, lørdag 4. Oktober ble en knall suksess! Dansegulvet var fullstappet hele tiden, og de som enda ikke var sliten etter all dansingen klokka 0315 måtte til slutt kastes ut! Det ble pumpet salsa, merengue og latinsk hip hop på det ene dansegulvet, og swing og annen musikk på det andre. Gled dere til 31. Oktober.....!




    This event was great, and everybody had so much fun! It seemed like everybody knew eachother at the end of the party.

    AUG2003:
    Back on track!
    Finally, the webpages are updated again. The webmaster has been to salsa congresses in USA and Norway, and there was no time for anything else but salsa dancing :)

    The more than 4000 participants at the international congress in LA, together with the Norwegian congress gave a lot of inspiration for dancing and practicing more. However, the salsa scene is pretty slow right now, as it is summer vacation. The only thing we have now is Coctail dance bar on Fridays.
    In the meantime - we have a new salsera and a new instructor in town!
    Consuelo has a solid dance background from Oregon and Arizona in USA, and has 
    recently partnered with me (Erik) in the world of Salsa. Before she moved from USA, she was a salsa performer and instructor for the past 5 years. The last year she was a member of Salvaje Dance Company in Arizona, one of the best salsa dance companies in the world, known from international congresses as the world congress in Los Angeles. 
    She has formal dance background from college in Oregon, where she studied ballet, jazz and hip hop. In her early age (highschool) she performed ballet mexican folklore for 4 years. 
    I am sure that Consuelo will become an outstanding positive influence to us all 
    and will be a major contributor to the dance community in Tromsø.

    This was definetely one of the best salsa weekend in Tromsø EVER! Fantastic workshops at Kulturhuset, and hillarious salsa party at Teaterkafeen on Saturday night. 
    Nilson did a good job guiding people to proper levels. Many people mistakenly believe that when they have taken a beginners class they are automatically ready for intermediate level classes. However, when they go to the intermediate level, they find out that they become frustrated or that other people get frustrated because they slow down the progress for everybody else. You need to practice before you go to the next level, and maybe take more beginner classes. And remember: Beginner level does not mean that the instructors teach the same thing all the time.

    Tirsdags-øvinga: STOR SUKSESS!
     Every tuesday from now on: Unformal but organized salsa practice from 19.00-22.00 at kulturhuset. 
    Tirsdags-øvinga på kulturhuset har fått en knall-start! Jevnt over 30 personer kommer for å øve på det vi har lært på ulike kurs. Vi begynner den første timen med et gratis nybegynnerkurs. Deretter lar vi musikken gå, sånn at alle kan øve fritt uansett nivå.

    Alle er hjertelig velkommen på tirsdagene - uansett når du var på kurs sist, og uansett hvem du var på kurs hos. Husk: De som danser salsa er veldig sosiale vesener, og er glade for både å hjelpe med råd og å kunne danse med nye mennesker.

    Salsa in Oslo, Christmas/New Year

    Erik and Nilson took the trip down to Oslo to salsa last christmas. We had a great time at the clubs and private salsa parties.

    Hvor kan vi øve?
    Where can we practice? A lot of people ask us about places to go practice what they have learned in a class. Kulturhuset is open for salsa practicing every Tuesday, 1900-2200. Entrance 20 kr. If you are a beginner and would like to become a better dancer, you should also read the latest addition in the articles section by clicking here

    New salsa classes at KARAMBA!
    Every second Friday, starting from the upcoming (Nov. 15), Erik teaches salsa at intermediate/advanced level. Improve your technique, learn new moves and practice at the salsa party!!

    starting at 22.30.

    This is a 'drop-in' class, which means anyone can join in at any lesson. Entrance: 30 kr.

    El Salsero LUPE is coming to town!
    The merengue king from Corvallis, Oregon, USA is coming Sept. 6 to check out our salsa scene. You will know for sure when he is in tha house!

     

     

    Why is salsa so popular? 
    ** Because it is so cool! If you have ever seen somebody dance salsa at a club, you might have said
    to yourself : WOW! HOLY COW! That looks so great - it looks so fun! It truly is - and it's a club dance. And the best part: it is totally possible for anybody to dance like that - just find an instructor.

    ** In salsa, everything is allowed. This means that a lot of cool stuff from other dances can be incorporated. For example, a lot of hip hop stuff can be used! So if you start dancing salsa, you will also look and feel better on the dance floor in any nightclub.

    **  Since it is a partner dance, you get to know a lot of great people. It is very easy to get to know a boy/girl: ask him/her to dance, and when the song is over, you have a new friend! In fact, you can go to any country in the world (almost), and through salsa, make friends. Read about one of Erik's own experiences here (an article from the worlds biggest salsa news central)

    **  Because it is exotic, visiting a salsa club will be a new and refreshing experience.

    **  Because the music is great (even though you - like me - don't understand a word of Spanish) The dance and music can actually make you addicted - No kidding!     Would You Like To Dance? - Tips for Men
    I found this article on the Internet. It is interesting and you can 
    read it in the ARTICLES section. However, I do not find it
    very relevant for Tromsø. The salsa scene is packed with beautiful
    women who knows salsa, but there is a lack of guys. So guys,
    if you learn salsa, you will never regret it in this city. What (straight)
    guy would NOT go to a place where there are countless more
    girls than guys?
    Wanna impress your girlfriend? Take the initiative to go and take 
    a salsa class!
