Remember: If you find a 6 digit phone number, put 2 before the fixed phone´s number, an 9 before the cell phone´s.
Here, we have already corrected the numbers. 

Flight info

• tacv.cv for the local air transport company (currently only US flights)
• tacv.de or tacv.nl for European flights and phone numbers in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
  They do have trouble updating their pages, and their e-mail service is not very reliable, either, so we advice you to call them.
   
• For many Europeans, the Las Palmas-Praia route might be a cheap alternative. It cost EURO 500, incl. tax.
  Departure Thursdays 17.45, arrival 19:10 local time.
  From Praia  Thursdays 02:50, arrival Las Palmas: 06:05 local time.
  Purchase an airpass for one return ticket to any of the other islands. Extra flights are EURO 50 per distance. 
• For Scandinavia: StarTour opens charter flights this autumn (2006). Again, do some planning, to make sure you get to see more than Sal, albeit the island have beautiful beaches!

TACV departures from Amsterdam, Banjul, Dakar, Las Palmas, München, Paris, Lisboa, Basel, Madrid.

• Airport codes: Sal: SID, Santiago airport code: RAI

• TAP and TACV goes from Lisbon to Praia. (and from April: from Oslo, via Copenhague, to Lisbon!)
• Air France or others to Dakar, then Air Senegal or TACV to Praia.
• Condor from German cities to Sal
   
• HiFly currently does not do Cape Verde flights. They used to, so we keep the link, in case..

Any travel agency should be able to see all flights, but may not be able to issue tickets.

Car rental

Small cars: ca. EUR 50/day

Jeeps: ca. EUR 75/day

A jeep is recommended, as roads are basically all cobbled or even dirt/sand if you are departing from the major routes.

Gas (gasolina) is rather expensive, so people prefer gasóleo, i.e. diesel.

 

Accommodation

Hotel Holanda   This is our favourite. A nice, family-like hotel in Praia, run by Amâncio, or Reré, as he is called. Clean rooms in a building abundant with Amâncio´s own stone and wood-carving busts. He speaks English, German, and Dutch. The hotel also has a little bar on the ground floor at night, with occational live music. Hotel Holanda is situated in the central Achada Santo António suburb, close to the parliament, embassies and UN/NGO buildings. 15 min. walk to the Prainha and Quebra canela beaches, and 10 min by bus to the Plató, or old Praia city centre. e-mail: Hotel Holanda Web site: www.hotelholanda.com Fax: 00 238 262 37 10

Irwin, Aisling & Column, Wilson: Cape Verde Islands - The Bradt Travel Guide Bradt Publications, 2nd ed. 2002. Not our favorite, but the only available Cape-Verde-only guide in English.   The best map we found was www.freytagberndt.com´s Kap Verde / Cape Verde Islands map, on 1:80 000 scale.
