about me and my costumes

To the left is my little brother and his girlfriend.

I have to get some things done today. I have to move parts of the website to the other account, as this one is full. I have written a more precise description of the flemish kirtle.

09 June 03
I have updated both the flemish peasant and the german doublet. Unfortunately, I just discovered that my account is full. I think I have somewhere where I can store all the images, and I might just move them tomorrow. It will be lots of work, though... And the link to the flemish kirtle, which is what I have been sewing today doesn't seem to work, and I do not understand why...

I made a dress dummy! I have been having problemt with getting it stiif enaugh, and I keep putting lots of tape on on the inside. I bought the wooden cores for the buttons of the doublet today.

02 June 03
Fitting done on the doublet.

26 May 03
The padding is done, and I have begun the fitting. Look at it. Tomorrow, I will go to the embroidery shop and look for silk yarn and metal thread, and I will buy some wooden cores for the buttons.

Strange. My last update didn't work out. I will try again. As a result of the peascod problem, I have now padded one of the fronts. There is an extra layer of padding on the belly, but it is not very thick. Ok - look at the updates. I have also made it a little easier to find your way in the exiting world of the doublet diary (I have been linked to by a festive attyre, and am very proud of that!)

22 May 03
To pad or not ot pad, that is the question. Earlier today, I recieved a mail from Teddy, who asked whether or not I was going to have a peascod belly on the doublet. Did he know that was the reason why I haven't updated for so long? Look at the update. I added another image to the german gallery. (Thank you Marion MCNealy) Comment? (no need to log in)

I have quasi decided upon the embellishment of the doublet. Read about it. Right now, I am sewing the interlining and the wool together. I have never done interlinings before, and I have used some time figuring it out. The brother is not at home, so I have no image.

A few days ago, I came across some wonderful brickweaving websites. As I had not done any brickweaving for more than two years, and really, not much at all, I really wanted to try. My father used to do brickweaving when younger, and he has taught me the basics. Stupid me, I never try something easy. I found a fairly complicated pattern on the internet, used hourr preparing, and then I begun. First, it went pretty well, but suddenly, something very strange happened. What happened?! Here is the back of the weaving.

But I have started to work at the doublet again. Look at the diary updates. Both on 'laying the groundwork' and at 'Research'

How happy can a girl be? Look at this image! I finally got Patterns of fashion from a bookshop in Oslo, after searching through billions of bookshops and museums in London, I found it only a hundred kilometres from home. That's life. As you can see from the image, I have wool and linen lining for the doublet, and linen for the partlet, ruff and apron of the flemish gown. I am so glad. More progress: I have made a 'How to' page on Dyeing with Plants. I have done three colours. more will come, promise! The list of useful chemicals is not up, but it will come too. Perhaps tomorrow.

Added some more to the Flemish working woman, as I really needed to sew something. A gallery is up, and I will add more images when I use them. The smock is finished. Besides, my mother went to IKEA today, and she has bought me two metres of white linen and three metres of unbleached linen. Wonderful, isn't it?

Yesterday was spent at the library (at leas five hours). There is no book about the history of norwegian costumes, but the lady ordered Patterns of Fashion to me from another library. I am so happy! I have also been taking pictures of several books, which was the beginning to the new section. The Galleries

Tomorrow, I will be going to Oslo. I wil but Fabric for the doublet, and I will stop by a few museums and look for more images of Norwegians from the 16 century for the Galleries.

Stupid fabricshop! How can a fabricshop not have real wool? The good thing is that I have found another image of a someone wearing a doublet with the same cut as mine (the first image). There is a problem with that aswell. No references! Who is he, when is he from and who painted him? I need to know! I am also thinking about embellishment. I have to find something that do not make 15 year old boys feel stupid. If any of you know anything about the man on the picture that I mentioned, feel free to comment. No need to log in, just write your name where you are supposed to.

Third update today! When I get a project going, I am updating. Of course. The fact that I am getting rid of the rest of my websites has some effect aswell. I made the mockup an hour ago. Check it out!

04 May 03
I did some more on the planning of the 'Taylor's book of enns doublet'. I drew the pattern onto millimeter paper, and I did some more research. I evem managed to find a fitting image. Have a look

It is really strange how I have let this site die the last half a year or so. I have been going through a phase of cronical Harry Potter addiction, and I have not done any sewing at all. But I am back!

I have done loads of updates, but I do not feel like mentioning them all. The most obvoius it the layout, I guess, and the fact that I have made a forum, just in case I feel like making polls or of I need advice. But I have also done a few updates.

20 Jan 02
I have not done any sewing for weeks, that is why there has been such a lack of updates in this site. At the links section, you will find a link to my Norwegian Harry Potter Fanfiction site. Tada

18 Jan 02
This has nothing  to do with costuming. This is Harry Potter related.  Look at the Dark Mark!

21 Dec 02
I have finally updated my site. The reason for why it has been so long, is that I have had an extensive amount of exams. Besides, the Lord Of the Rings premiere has finally passed. I had 13 days to finish a costume for the premiere, I did a lot of sewing, and I actually had the costume ready an hour before the premiere. Clever me.

So... What is new this time? Quite a lot.I have updater my corset site, i have made tecniques site containing a description on how to sew eyelets. I have made a site on how my and my brothers' Lord of the rings costumes are made. I have added some links. i believe that was pretty much it.

08. Nov 02
Instead of doing any sewing, I have used all available time uppdating my site. I found it a bit... strange, so I have re-organised it. By the way: Has anybody got a nice idea of a picture to start this "what's new" site? It appear to me that it is a bit boring...

07. Nov 02
I have finally photographed the pattern for my hemp boned corset. Because of an extensive amount of home work, I have not found much tome to sew - hopefully, this have come to an end (for a few days).

31. Okt 02
Happy halloween! Today I have finally made a corset site. It is a diary of the hemp boned effigy(ish) style corset I am making. Alas, I have not had the time neither to finish it or to take photos of the progress. But, more will come!

22 Okt 02
I have gotten a guestbook. I want everybody to write me a message.

20 Okt 02
I have joined a webring. Perhaps this will make it possible for somebody to find my site. I also tried to register at alta vista and  kvasir. In a month or two it will be possible to find me there.

19 Okt 02
Today I have added where the "blue smock" at my smock site comes from. It is a 16 century french smock found at the "poulet gauche" site. I have eventually started sewing my hemp corded effigy-corset, but the corset side is only up in norwegian, and without photographs.

06 Okt 02
You can't believe how happy I am today. After research I finally found pattern for a smock similar to mine (or, at least it reminds me of mine. This pattern is a copy of a smock from the 1630's. I am almost period, isn't that nice? I also added a picture showing the shoulder of my smock after the changes.

05 Okt 02
I added some more photos to my smock-site. You will find some notices om whether my mthod of sewing it is priod or not.

04 Okt 02
I have finally made a costume site. Here you will be able to read about my ew projects. At the moment, the only project described is my smock
