Department of Applied Chemistry

Head of The Department of Applied Chemistry: Birru Bitu

The Department of Applied Chemistry offers courses highly focused to help students initiate and execute research activities related to Natural Products, Environmental Pollution, Industrial Processes, Hydrochemistry, Food, Medicine, and Agriculture.

Students are given options to specialize in any of the different streams in the department.

Students are expected to cover a total of 140 credit hours (75 major, 36 supportive, and 26 general credits) and an optional senior research project.

Upon completing their studies, the students will be awarded with "B.Sc. Degree in chemistry (Science)"

Graduates will have a wide range of job opportunity in different manufacturing and chemical industries like food and beverage, glass and cement, textile, and cannery industries, research institutions, water treatment plants, medical laboratories, quality control laboratories, teaching institutions and others.
